What can kids can do to promote reusable bags?

We started a reusable bag project in our local community to encourage stores to sell and promote reusable bags. You can start your own project or try some of these easy, simple effective ways to make a difference:

Start with your own family:
Teach the adults about the problems with disposable shopping bags. Find some reusable bags around you house and put them in your car to use them. If you don't have reusable bags, ask you parents to buy an inexpensive reusable bag that stores are selling now. Make sure your family has enough bags to carry all your groceries Remind them to bring them when they shop (parents needs LOTS of reminding!)

Try to get your class on board. Tell your teachers about the great free curriculum unit on our website!

Ask you teachers or principal to do an assembly for your whole school:
Find some older kids to prepare a fun, presentation about the problems with disposable bags (you can use our reusable bag play)
Collect 1000 plastic bags to show how many bags a family uses in just one year and put it in a big pile to show all the school
Bring in different reusable bags to show alternatives to plastic and paper

Make simple bold posters
Show one problem with disposable bags and remind people to "bring your own bag!"
Ask if your local stores might display your posters.

Make a brochure to teach adults about how they can help the environment by bringing their own bag.

Email us your ideas for a poster!
We want to share the best ideas with other stores and kids. Email us a great slogan to get adults to remember their bag or try a reusable bag. Remember to include your first name, age, and the name of your community. Make sure it's ok with your parents first. Email: marjorie@kidsforacoolerplanet.com

We hope to show hundreds of kids with reusable bags. Let us know if you care and are interested in being part of our PSA
